Our Research

We're listening to young people about what they need from music.

Our research asks young people what’s working and what’s not. What makes young people show up? What holds them back? It’s about understanding, not assuming, because when young people are part of the conversation, better decisions get made.

We share what we hear with governments, the music industry, and local communities so that together we make sure every young person has the opportunity to thrive in Australian music.

Our Research

Young Australian Music Audiences 2025

We asked young Australians a simple question: what role does music really play in your life right now? At a time when mental health and connection are under pressure, the 2025 findings make one thing clear; music isn’t just background noise. It’s a lifeline for wellbeing, identity, and belonging. The report unpacks how young people are staying connected through music in a fast-changing digital world and why backing that connection has never mattered more.

Parliamentary Inquiry Australian live music industry

We’ve put forward a response to the Parliamentary Inquiry into the live music sector. Not just with ideas, but with the real experiences of young people, artists and grassroots organisers at the centre of it. From better support for all-ages events to pathways into industry that actually work. It’s about moving beyond talk and making sure young people’s access to live music isn’t an afterthought.

Access All Ages

In 2025, we turned up the volume on Access All-Ages calling on our leaders to back young people’s right to belong in live music, not just watch it from the sidelines. Our proposal for national All-Ages Events Teams is about funding real opportunities for young Australians to lead, create and share music in their own communities. From regional towns to outer-suburban suburbs, we know young people want music that’s local, affordable and powered by them.
