Young Australian Music Audiences 2025

We’re excited to share the second annual Young Australian Music Audiences Report, giving a fresh look at how young people across the country connect with music and with each other.

With Australia set to roll out the world’s first social media ban for under‑16s in December 2025, we asked young Aussies one simple question: what role does music really play in your life? At a time when mental health and social connection are under pressure, this year’s findings show music isn’t just background noise. It’s a key tool for wellbeing, identity, and belonging.

The report dives into how music keeps young people connected in a fast-changing digital world and why supporting that connection is more important now than ever.

This 2025 research is based on polling conducted by YouGov in July 2025, with further insights drawn from longitudinal analysis by The Push using data collected by The Australia Institute in August 2024.
