Meet the next cohort

Announcing our fourth Music Industry Mentoring cohort

Music Industry Mentoring supports emerging talent by offering hands-on workplace learning experiences at leading music organisations across the country.

With generous support from The Ian Potter Foundation, The Push will support 60 young people over the next three years through music industry placements, helping them build practical skills, industry knowledge and valuable networks across event management, technical production, business operations and marketing.

This year, we’re especially proud to have had participants representing every state. In this upcoming round, our fourth cohort, eleven young people will gain real-world experience with Live Nation, Theatre Royal, SRO, Moshtix, QMusic, WAM, Laneway and MusicACT.

Applications for the next intake open in March. Register your interest now to be the first to know when they’re live.

Elise Bagorski

Mentoring Opportunity: Theatre Royal - Audio Technical Assistant (TAS)

Pronouns: she/they

Age: 21

Who are you currently listening to?

I’ve taken a step away from my usual Musical Theatre playlist, and have been super into Indie Pop & Folk (shout out to my girl Dodie).

First live gig?

I remember this so clearly - an X Factor concert. It was 2012 and I was OBSESSED with Samantha Jade, so it was my first ever gig!

What are you currently doing in music?

I’m super into live events (namely, theatre) and have been doing a lot in the industry for a few years! I work on a lot of musicals, and in my (quite rare) spare time, I compose music!

What are you looking forward to about the Music Industry Mentoring program?

Just developing skills, and feeling more secure in what I’m doing. Learning from someone who knows what they’re doing is going to be so valuable!!!

Mentoring Opportunity:
Live Nation - Tour Marketing Assistant (NSW)

Pronouns: she/her

Age: 18

Who are you currently listening to?

I have had 'So Close to What' by Tate McRae and 'If That Makes Sense' by Spacey Jane on repeat this week! My appreciation for both grows greater with each listen, as I recognise different sounds and elements each time.

First live gig?

Little Mix at the O2 Arena in 2017! It was the first of many concerts with my mum.

What are you currently doing in music?

I am developing my love (and skill) in playing my bass guitar, and writing my own songs every time I feel inspired to - even if this in the car on the way home from work sometimes. I am also reaching out to different local artists to gain more experience in live music photography, another passion of mine.

What are you looking forward to about the Music Industry Mentoring program?

I am so incredibly excited to see how the music industry works behind the scenes, particularly in regards to fan engagement and tour marketing.

Emily Cone

Mentoring Opportunity: QMusic - BIGSOUND Special Events Assistant (QLD)

Pronouns: she/her

Age: 22

Who are you currently listening to?

Ra Ra Viper, Skegss, Spacey Jane, Letters to Lions, and Ruby Fields have been long-time favourites and are always in my regular rotation. Lately, I've been rinsing a lot of Wunderhorse, Waterparks, Vacations, The Frights and Her's.

First live gig?

I’ve been going to concerts since I was a little kid, with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day, and Foo Fighters among the first artists I ever saw live. But it was my first gig as an adult which Shag Rock, Peach Fur, and Selfish Sons played at The Tivoli that truly ignited my passion for live music and the local scene.

What are you currently doing in music?

I’m currently studying a Bachelor of Entertainment Business Management at JMC Academy, and I work freelance as a UGC Content Creator for artists and events and always squeezing in as many local gigs as I can along the way.

What are you looking forward to about the Music Industry Mentoring program?

I’m most looking forward to learning from some of the industry professionals I really admire and getting the chance to try things I haven’t done before. I’ve spent so much time in the crowd — travelling to gigs, camping at festivals, and supporting artists so I’m excited to step behind the scenes and gain a better understanding of how it all comes together. Being surrounded by a community of likeminded people who just get it and who live and breathe music the way I do is something I’m also very excited about.

Anastasia Cotis

Mentoring Opportunity:
SRO, Event Management Assistant (NT)

Pronouns: she/her

Age: 19

Who are you currently listening to?

The current music genres I'm listening to are very mixed!

I'm currently listening to a lot of EDM.

First live gig?

The first live music gig that I ever attended was Top End local artist, Jessica Mauboy, at the Darwin Entertainment Centre way back in 2013 when I was just 8 years old!

What are you currently doing in music?

I currently have less than 1 year until I complete my studies towards a Bachelor of Business, double majoring in strategic marketing, communications, international management, and logistics. I also do freelance social media event marketing for LAUNCH Darwin, which has allowed me to put my foot in the event industry door and experience covering live events (including music gigs).

What are you looking forward to about the Music Industry Mentoring program?

I'm looking forward to working and learning with the team at SRO as an Event Management Assistant! I want to gain as much knowledge and experience in all the back-end work that goes behind putting on a live event, and more specifically, enhance my marketing skills. I'm also looking forward to meeting other people within the industry. I'm super excited to get started and grow from this experience!

Alexandra Devine

Mentoring Opportunity: Moshtix, Client & Event Management Assistant (QLD)

Pronouns: she/her

Age: 24

Who are you currently listening to?

My top 10 artists over the last six months have been Knox, Myles Smith, Noah Kahan, AJR, Twenty One Pilots, Illenium, The Chainsmokers, Sleeping With Sirens, Taylor Acorn, Peach PRC. And I have been lucky enough to have seen 8/10 of these amazing musicians over the last few years.

First live gig?

Some might be embarrased but I am extremely proud to say that my very first concert was One Direction back in 2013. It was at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre with 5 Seconds of Summer opening for them and we were in the very last row. I was a massive fan and my mum even spoiled me to get my hair styled professionally just for the big occasion.

What are you currently doing in music?

When I'm not working my day job I have a casual position at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre which has been amazing over the last year seeing such a variety of shows come together. I have also in the last two years attended over 20 concerts/festivals which I like to say has been for research and learning purposes but it's actually just so much fun!

What are you looking forward to about the Music Industry Mentoring program?

I am super excited to have an opportunity where I will be able to learn from an array of diverse and knowledgeable industry professionals. I can't wait to see the processes from start to finish of the events Moshix create and to hopefully play a small role in creating such beautiful and impactful music experiences. I plan to take as much away from this experience as I possibly can and I know that will happen with the help of my mentor, The Push and the other mentees in the program.

Nathalie Freed

Mentoring Opportunity: Laneway, Festival Operations Assistant (NSW)

Pronouns: she/her

Age: 20

Who are you currently listening to?

Lately, I’ve been loving Beabadoobee and Khruangbin!! But, I always find myself coming back to Aussie acts. A classic for me is Middle Kids, I revisit their music all the time.

First live gig?

My first live show was Benee at Luna Park! I still remember a guy in a leopard shirt getting up on someone’s shoulders and doing a shoey... unforgettable.

What are you currently doing in music?

I currently work with two insanely talented Sydney-based acts: I handle digital marketing for R&B artist Ms. Thandi and manage communications for my fave local band, Lemonise!! Alongside this, I’m also studying a Bachelor of Strategic Communications and a Bachelor of Media Business.

What are you looking forward to about the Music Industry Mentoring program?

I’m so keen to dive deeper into the business side of the music industry. I’m especially interested in the process behind massive events like Laneway Festival, and what it really takes to bring something like that to life.

Miella Mondlane

Mentoring Opportunity: WAM, Major Music Event Assistant (WA)

Pronouns: she/her

Age: 23

Who are you currently listening to?

My music taste is honestly all over the place, but lately I’ve been deep in my 2000s neo-soul era — lots of Jill Scott and D’Angelo. I’ve also been loving UK artists like Olivia Dean, Little Simz, and Ezra Collective. And closer to home, I’ve had People Taking Pictures’ new album on repeat.

First live gig?

Apart from going to my dad’s shows growing up, my first official gig was back in 2015 at the old Subiaco Oval — I saw One Direction, and yep, I was basically living my teenage dreams screaming along!

What are you currently doing in music?

I recently graduated from WAAPA with a Bachelor of Music, majoring in Jazz vocals. This year, I’ve started teaching vocal lessons at a high school, gigging around Perth with various jazz combos, and regularly going to jams around the city. I’m also really focusing on writing and developing my own original songs.

What are you looking forward to about the Music Industry Mentoring program?

I’m really looking forward to working with WAM and learning more about how the music industry works behind the scenes - especially in WA. Being surrounded by people who are passionate about supporting local artists is so valuable, and I’m excited to gain knowledge, make new connections, and better understand how to navigate the industry as an emerging artist.

Catherine Murphy

Mentoring Opportunity: MusicACT, Programs Assistant (ACT)

Pronouns: she/her

Age: 24

Who are you currently listening to?

A bit of everything recently! I've been looooving Velvet Bloom's album and the new releases from Lorde and Loyle Carner but also have been in a bit of a nostalgic phase. Listening to lots of old favourites from my childhood - David Gray, James, Norah Jones.

First live gig?

I believe it was James Blunt at the State Theatre when I was 14. My parents surprised me with tickets for my birthday and I was SO excited.

What are you currently doing in music?

I've been working more on the operations side of things for a while - in live music venues and logistics for events. I'm excited to dive into the industry a bit deeper and engage with artists and creatives through this opportunity.

What are you looking forward to about the Music Industry Mentoring program?

I'm really looking forward to connecting with people in the Canberra music scene and with the other young people in the program. So many people to learn from and so much passion and music to share.

Yhengqi Peng

Mentoring Opportunity: MusicACT, Programs Assistant (ACT)

Pronouns: she/her

Age: 24

Who are you currently listening to?

Lately, I’ve been loving K-pop and Japanese City Pop — the energy, aesthetic, and production are just incredible. They give me so much inspiration, both musically and creatively!!!

First live gig?

When I was 8 years old, my parents took me to a huge multi-artist concert at the Cadillac Arena in Beijing — that experience completely opened my eyes to the magic of live music. I still remember the lights, the sound, the crowd… it planted the seed.

What are you currently doing in music?

I’ve started recording my own songs for fun and love following a bunch of music creators on YouTube and TikTok. I’m always exploring how artists present themselves, engage fans, and build a sound and image — it really fascinates me from both a creative and business side.

What are you looking forward to about the Music Industry Mentoring program?

Honestly, I’m just so excited (and grateful) for the chance to get closer to the music world. I want to learn everything — not just about the creative side, but also the business, marketing, and how to really connect music with audiences. I hope this experience helps me find my voice in the industry and take meaningful steps forward.

Caitlyn Sinclair

Mentoring Opportunity: Live Nation - Product & Experience Assistant (VIC)

Pronouns: she/her

Age: 23

Who are you currently listening to?

Currently have been been re-listening to Lorde's 'Pure Heroine', the gossip girl soundtrack, N.E.R.D always, Lana Del Rey's 'Born to Die' and The Velvet Underground.

First live gig?

I am very proud to say it was One Direction when I was 14 - a part of me is still there I think.

What are you currently doing in music?

While I don't have extensive experience in the Industry, I am beyond excited to learn! I volunteer annually at my local music festival, Macedon Ranges Music Festival; I attend as many concerts as I can and appreciate live music at local venues - particularly that of my friends; and always looking for opportunities to get involved in the industry.

What are you looking forward to about the Music Industry Mentoring program?

Everything! I am just so thrilled to get the opportunity to learn and grow in a cohort of other young people finding their feet in the industry. Gaining an understanding to the internal cogs of the machine that is live concerts and events is invaluable to me, and I can't imagine a better place to learn from than the fantastic mentors from Live Nation. As someone who has patiently stared at the logo of Live Nation trying to fight my way into presales more times than I can count, this experience already means so much to me. I'm also really looking forward to working with the Push and getting a glimpse behind the curtain at the important work they do in the industry and for young people.

Hannah Slattery

Mentoring Opportunity: Live Nation - Digital Marketing Assistant (VIC)

Pronouns: she/her

Age: 22

Who are you currently listening to?

My playlists have a bit of everything! Lately I've been loving DICE, Dizzy Days, Parcels, AC/DC, Queen, Velvet Trip, Sycco, Nabii, Fontaines D.C., Nothing But Thieves, JET, Matilda Pearl, and Playlunch.

First live gig?

AC/DC - we left during an incredible guitar solo when my brother had an allergic reaction, certainly a memorable night.

What are you currently doing in music?

I capture the magic of live music by taking photos of touring and local artists around Australia and sharing them online as Hannah Took This. I’m passionate about platforming music in and from regional areas like where I’m from, and highlighting queer and disabled artists too! When I don’t have a camera in hand, you’ll usually still find me at a gig or playing music with friends.

What are you looking forward to about the Music Industry Mentoring program?

I’m looking forward to learning from industry leaders and developing skills that will help me grow a career in the music industry; getting to apply those skills while marketing some of the biggest upcoming concerts is incredibly exciting.
