Young Australian Music Audiences 2026

Music matters to young Australians. They've told us so for three years running.

They told us that attending music events supports their wellbeing and happiness, helps them deal with stress, anxiety and depression, and strengthens their relationships and friendships. Live music gives young people a sense of community and belonging, a place to find their people, express themselves and share experiences that stay with them for life.

But we have also heard that access to these experiences is becoming harder. Cost, age restrictions and not knowing where to find or see Australian artists are getting in the way.

This research isn't about changing tastes or a tough live music market. It's a clear message about what young Australians need to take part in cultural and community life.

They've told us what music gives them, what's getting in their way, and what needs to change. Now it's up to government, industry and philanthropy to listen and act.

The 2026 polling was conducted by YouGov, with the questionnaire developed by YouGov in collaboration with The Push.
