Music Industry Mentoring

Music Industry Mentoring connects young people with workplace experience across Australia’s music industry.

A free program for young people at the start of their careers. You’ll be placed with a real music organisation, working across live events, production, marketing, or the business side of music.

You’ll gain real industry experience, build your network, and develop the skills and confidence to take the next step in your career.

Since 2024, more than 30 young people have worked inside leading music organisations across Australia, learning on the job with people working in the music industry.

Music Industry Mentoring is supported by The Ian Potter Foundation, Music Australia and Live Performance Australia.

Applications are now open for the next round of the program and close 5pm AEDT, Wednesday 8 July 2026.

Current Program Opportunities

This participant will work predominantly within the Sales Enablement and Business Development teams at Live Nation, who are responsible for securing brand partnerships across Live Nation festivals, venues and touring businesses across Australia and New Zealand.

FAQ's

Music Industry Mentoring is a free workplace learning program where you are placed with a music organisation for around 150 hours. During this time, you’ll gain hands-on experience and learn directly from industry professionals.

The program is open to young people aged 18–25 living anywhere in Australia. Priority access is given to First Nations young people, young people of colour, young people from low-income households, LGBTQIA+ young people, and young people with disability.

No. You don’t need previous experience or a long CV to apply. What matters most is your interest in the music industry, a willingness to learn and a commitment to participating in the program.

You'll gain practical industry experience, mentorship and professional connections. The program helps build skills, knowledge and confidence to support the next steps in a career in the contemporary music industry.

The program is free to participate in. You'll receive an allowance to help cover travel, meals and other expenses while completing the program.

Music Industry Mentoring focuses on behind-the-scenes careers in the music industry, including artist management, technical production, marketing and social media, promotions and operations.

Depending on the organisations involved in each round, placements may take place with festivals, venues, touring companies, music organisations and other businesses across the Australian music industry.

The program runs across Australia. Placement locations vary depending on the organisations involved in each round.

Places in the program are limited, so the application process can be competitive. If you’re passionate about working in music and ready to learn, we encourage you to apply.

Strong applicants demonstrate a clear interest in working in the music industry and show evidence of pursuing relevant training, experience or opportunities that align with their future career goals.

Yes! Young people from regional and rural communities are encouraged to apply. Placement opportunities may vary depending on location and the organisations involved in each round.
