The Push announces Amity Affliction under 18's show

Thursday July 17, 2008
For immediate Release

The Push and Destroy All Lines present a selection of Australia’s best emotional hardcore talent this winter, at The Evelyn. Queensland’s The Amity Affliction will jump out of the studio to headline the strictly under-ages event on Sunday 17 August. Locally renowned emotional rockers Closure in Moscow and infectious young melodic punks Broadway will support. Tickets will cost $15 at the door and suitable age verification is required.

The bill will additionally provide a rare opportunity, by way of a demo competition, for a young, talented local act, to open on The Evelyn’s ambient stage. The show will encompass some of The Amity Affliction’s brand new, unreleased songs, along with the songs which have become entrenched in the Australian hardcore landscape.

The Amity Affliction continues to forge their way into the hearts and minds of young people through their ability to put on memorable, fast-paced live shows. Meanwhile, Closure in Moscow will use the show as a farewell to its underage fans for now as they prepare to record their debut album in America. Broadway, whom themselves have supported the likes of Trial Kennedy and The Hot Lies, will strive to bring the dance back to the hardcore kids.

The Amity Affliction has been constantly likened to major American hardcore artists Alexisonfire, Evergreen Terrace, and particularly, Underoath. The band toured with Enter Shikari earlier this year, playing sell-out shows to rapturous audiences across the nation. Their emergence has seen them share stages alongside the likes of America’s Silverstein, Anberlin, Rufio, Strike Anywhere, and Every Time I Die, and locally, with Australian acts such as Parkway Drive, I Killed the Prom Queen, The Getaway Plan and Miles Away.

“Amity” has built their particular brand of hardcore by performing festivals such as Taste of Chaos, the Boys of Summer tour, and various FReeZA events. Their widely acclaimed debut EP, High Hopes, rests among the most promising Australian hardcore debut releases of recent years, and their debut full length album – now just months away – has become one of the most anticipated releases within the genre.

This event is strictly for under 18’s. It is a drug, alcohol and smoke-free event with no passouts. For more information contact The Push on 9380 1277 or visit www.thepush.com.au

The Push Christmas Party 07

The Push Christmas party saw Lover, Calling All Cars, FReeZACentral mentees, industry mentors, and The Push staff come together at the Tote to celebrate the achievements of 2007 and to discuss the exciting events coming early in 2008.

The Push's 15th year of operation in 2007 saw this non-for-profit statewide entertainment organisation produce yet another fruitful twelve months of opportunities for young people, staging drug and alcohol free events across Victoria.

The lantern-lit courtyard at the Tote was a perfect area to share stories, impart knowledge and forge new friendships. Barbequed meats and many beverages were consumed over tales concerning anything from music genres, touring, upcoming concerts, music photography to the future of music and landscape of the country, and how to fulfill young musical aspirations within it.

At around 9pm, The Push General Manager Peter Chellew gave the crowd an insight into what the past year had brought and what the year ahead held. March 2008 would see the FReeZACentral Victorian regional tour gigs and Push Over take place. Peter went on to thank staff that were departing and welcomed those jumping aboard. Mentees that applied for an industry mentorship early in 2007 were unofficially recognised with kind words, as were the mentors who were voluntarily assisting them.

Later in the night Lover took to the stage and showed that they were a tour-hardened band ready to deliver their music as it deserved. After producing a set full of raw anguished vocals, dirty guitar riffs and melodies lyrically from the heart, they left the stage to appreciative applause. An hour later, Calling All Cars did the same in a more scorching, less loving, punk way.

Despite performing to a smaller crowd, the bands seemed to appreciate the importance of the event and the chance to play to several distinguished members of the Victorian, and Australian, music industry. Being a band striving to make the move into the Victorian music scene from Newcastle, Lover seemed to understand the importance of leaving nothing at the door.

The music took some of the crowd away from earlier conversations, while others chose to stay outside. As the night went on, segmented groups slowly came together and produced a tighter cluster of noise. The content of stories didn't really matter anymore, just the fact that you were like-minded, and that you were there. It was probably some time after two in the morning when the last guests left, happy that they'd come to the Tote and made some new future friends and colleagues, instead of going to any of the several booming gigs being held up the road.
